Q&A - the content of the questions
A few initial ideas, a bit of a brainstorm;
The chosen questions for each page of the book;
- Littering: You see some rubbish had been blown out of the bin but nobody has noticed or stopped to pick it up! What do you do?
Answer: Ignore it as well, it's not your responsibility
Answer: Advise people passing that litter is bad for the environment and ends up in the ocean so we must be more careful
Answer: Pick up the rubbish carefully full, as to avoid and injury (don't pick up glass) and put it in the bin yourself.
Revealed answer: You COULD, but if not you then who?..
Revealed answer: Go for it! But not everyone will listen or will want to hear it, sadly
Revealed answer: Taking a stand and doing something about yourself rather than waiting to someone else to do it is a powerful thing! Whilst you can not do everything yourself, setting an example is always positive.
- Travel:You normally get dropped off at school everyday in the car because your parents have to get to work but you have just learnt how bad car emissions are for the environment! What can you do?
Answer: Ask your parents to take the bus one day a week, to save on emissions
Answer: Ask you parents if a car pull can be arranged so that one journey can go further
Answer: Carry on going to school in the car, it's easier and you don't want to get in the way
Revealed answer: This is perfect as a starting point! They may be reluctant and it may take a bit of convincing but it's always worth an ask!
Revealed answer: A great way to build a community but not always the easiest of things to organise.
Revealed answer: This may be the realistic option but do not settle for it without at least a bit of a fight!
- Animals leaving: You have just learnt that many animals have to leave their homes due to deforestation and one of your classmates keeps starting a new piece of paper every time they make a mistake whilst practicing their handwriting! What do you do?
Answer: It's nothing to do with you, it's their choice
Answer: Kindly advise your fellow classmate that perfection doesn't exist and to fully use one piece of paper before moving onto another
Answer: Ask the teacher to source recycled paper so that it's not so bad
Revealed answer: Whilst this is technically true there is nothing wrong with a gentle reminder.
Revealed answer: As long as it is kind, you can absolutely give your fellow classmates a little nudge in a more environmentally friendly direction!
Revealed answer: This is also a great idea, just not necessarily something you have control over.
- Bees: Today at school you learnt how hard bees work to help produce the food that you eat and how so much of it gets thrown away but you're too full to finish your lunch! What can you do?
Answer: What's one more wasted apple? I don't want it
Answer: Ask if anyone else wants it, I don't want it but someone else might
Answer: Save it for later, you'll be hungry soon
Revealed answer: One more apple may not seem like a lot but even the smallest of things matter!
Revealed answer: It's worth an ask but not a guaranteed thing
Revealed answer: Always a good way to go!
- Breathing: The meat industry causes a significant amount of deforestation and we now know that when trees are cut down they release the carbon dioxide that they store which impacts the air we breathe! What can you do?
Answer: I don't need to do anything, I can breathe just fine
Answer: Ask your parents to do meat free Monday's, reducing the amount of meat you eat!
Answer: Wear a mask to filter the air you breathe
Revealed answer: Maybe so but the situation is gradually getting worse
Revealed answer: A really good idea! A small change that can make a difference
Revealed answer: This may be something we are used too now but certainly is not a long term fix.
- As a collective: You know there is power in numbers and working as part of a team is a really good way of getting something done faster! What can you do to help each other?
Answer: Remind each other about the simple everyday things we can do to help the environment, everyone forgets sometimes!
Answer: Be kind and respectful to one another, there is always more that can be done but no one is perfect!
Answer: Share your knowledge and ideas with each other, it's always good to hear other's thoughts!
Revealed answer: Perfect!
Revealed answer: Absolutely!
Revealed answer: Sharing is caring!
Certainly took some brain power to come up with these but I really like them... especially the last one, it's really sweet and acts as a reminder that it's not going to be an instant change kind of situation!
Each question will end with either "what can you do and why?" or "would do you dk and why?" to get the reader thinking it through and giving reasons to their answers.
