book trial
It was suggested a couple of times during the project to get my book reviewed by a kid, of roughly the correct age, in order to get a sense of wether or not it would be successful and how it might need editing if I was to take it further. Jordan (letter press technician) offered to help with this, as his daughter is in year 1 - the exact age I'm looking at - and suggested putting together a few questions to aid the review.
The questions that I came up with are;
- Did you find the book enjoyable to read?
- Did it make sense, with the book and puzzles combined or did it feel a bit confused?
- Were the puzzles too easy? Too hard? Did you get them right?..
- What did you think about the quizzes? Was it fun thinking about what you might do in those situations? Did it make you think at all about what sort of small changes you make in your everyday life?
- Was the vocabulary too complex? Too simple? Or just right?
- Did you feel overwhelmed by the content of the book?
- Did the activities appeal to you? Which one looks the most fun? If you did do any of them, did they work and were they enjoyable?
- Was the wooden case easy enough to handle? Was it too big and bulky?
- Most importantly, did it make you feel like there is something that you can do to help to environment, as big or small as it might be? Did it start a conversation?
There are probably a few things that I have missed but I think these questions cover the main elements of the book.
* Unfortunately, due to the printing issues, I was unable to get this review done before submission however I will try and do so before the exhibition, using these questions and any others I can think of.
