pop-up research and experiments

 Given that I want to include a few pop-up pages, to make the book that bit more interactive (and complicated!!!) so I got a few pop-up books from the library to look through for inspiration;

Well damn, quite the variety of pop-up structures and layouts within these books! Some a lotttt more complex than I am going for - nothing like the volcanoes or Thor's hammer but I do rather like a pop-up. The lift the flap elements with the super colourful book (already can't remember the name) works surprisingly well for a simple structure of paper being stuck over the page so for simplicities sake I think that is just hat I shall do! I absolutely adore the London book and the use of layout with the entire page and I think had I seen this earlier on in the project, I possibly would have gone for something a bit like this but it is now a bit late to change the idea so much!

I looked through this book by Duncan Birmingham last year for help with the pop-ups I did and it was useful so I figured I would use it again as somewhat of a refresher.

I tried a multitude of different pop up/ interactive techniques here. the popups themselves were not overly successful due to the angles used but taking it forward I will do it as digital layout designs anyway as the book is going to be all digitally laid out which will hopefully solve this problem. I am not entirely sure the pull tabs will work for the quizzes as they use a-lot of paper so we will see what happens with that due to time restraints. So the lift tabs are pretty much bag on they will be taking to the book as is with a potential typography change.
