Everything wooden structure & 3D workshop! Laser cutting & constructing
Following on from last times laser cutting experiments, which worked really well and were exactly what i wanted them to be. I have finished off the remaining designs are updated the previous to fit them to the desired size and fix any mistakes.
I then had a little breakdown on the page over the wooden structure;
After going back and forth with how the wooden structure would work, in terms of attaching the puzzle structures to the base, I decided that the better alternative would be to use book cloth and to essentially use as a wrap around this also allows for flexibility in whatever way the book is used. This definitely feels like the better way forward as it also removes the risk of splinters and sharp edges however it may make this less long lasting as the wood may fray the book cloth eventually but I think this would happen over a long period so isn't worth thinking about.
A couple of screenshots from the digital construction of the puzzle documents as it was so longwinded that I just forgot to take more...
(I used image trace for the tree here, as it of course couldn’t be done in colour nor could that much in the way of detail be included)
These are final documents ready to be put through the laser cutter, it is the entire wooden structure excluding the slider puzzles which I have now worked out for a smoother glide. These all worked out alot better than I expected them to do, especially since they are all digital and I had to learn it all pretty quickly.
No guarantee that these will work exactly as expected but luckily there is still time to fix it if there is something wrong.
I won't bother putting in a longggggg line of process photos as they are pretty much the same as the previous laser cutting post, I shall just move onto the final outcome which, may I add, I am so damn happy with!
(Sadly I had a few issues with the stamps and getting the small letters to align enough to easy fit into the holder so one stamp did not make it in but given that this piece is pretty much a prototype you can see enough of it for that to not really be an issue)
Everything works nicely, the little shape identifies aren't too obvious but are clear enough to see - these will (or would, depending on time left) feature on the character cards, to make it clear which character does which puzzle and quiz, when I get to that bit.
It's such a beautiful thing and I am honestly so amazed that I managed to pull it off!!!
