Mixed media/interactive ways of creating art
I started this a little while back, when I looked at Lauren Child's books, I just didn't have the time to do all the experimentation that I wanted to so I figured I would wait and do the write up all at once;
It started as me just trying to introduce physical items into the illustration rather than just drawing (the first one) which actually made instructional illustration quite interesting and fun to do, combined with the quirky layout! I really wanted to use methods that would also encourage engagement with nature so whilst I wasn't sure if it would work or not, I went and did some tree rubbing with quite a cheap and affordable crayon, which is something most schools will probably have. I had a vision in mind when I did the watercolour paint over the rubbing but I didn't think it would work quite THAT well! It really captures the texture and life of a tree, in a really endearing visual manner. The photography collage is an interesting idea and to an extent it was actually preferred during one of the more recent tutorials but I don't think it's bright enough, nor as achievable for the target audience.
I want to try and find more practical and playful ways of creating illustration, like these as they are really fun and engaging for me to do and could create something really interesting!
