Printing on the hand made paper

Image
Figuring out how to print on handmade paper... I think I may potentially have figured it out. rough and untrimmed edge VS. trimmed and tidy edge! I think that may just be the answer here! I still don't think the university will allow me to use their printers with it, I would probably still need to use some from the art shop or source it from elsewhere but I think the printing of the collage tower is actually good enough quality and could potentially be good enough for the final outcome. Not too sure but it is a promising experiment.

Mixed media/interactive ways of creating art

I started this a little while back, when I looked at Lauren Child's books, I just didn't have the time to do all the experimentation that I wanted to so I figured I would wait and do the write up all at once; It started as me just trying to introduce physical items into the illustration rather than just drawing (the first one) which actually made instructional illustration quite interesting and fun to do, combined with the quirky layout! I really wanted to use methods that would also encourage engagement with nature so whilst I wasn't sure if it would work or not, I went and did some tree rubbing with quite a cheap and affordable crayon, which is something most schools will probably have. I had a vision in mind when I did the watercolour paint over the rubbing but I didn't think it would work quite THAT well! It really captures the texture and life of a tree, in a really endearing visual manner. The photography collage is an interesting idea and to an extent it was act...

Instructional illustration

I looked at this book last year, as part of the artist book unit to get an idea of illustrating direction/motion within still image and without having to fully describe every step.     95% arrows... I had forgotten from last year! Makes a lot of sense though, it is quite a common visual to use as a very simple and minimalist, universal manner of communicating. The visuals themselves here have no relation to my project (in terms of relating to children's books) but it's interesting to see just how many ways you can visualise an arrow! Arrows alone or arrows combined with numbers seems to be the way to go, in this instance anyway as well as either separating the parts of an object to show how they fit together or showcasing each step in stills. https://www.hiwwt.org.uk/actions/how-create-mini-pond Much more wordy here with minimal but key illustrations, both to help visualise the steps but also to make it that bit more interesting. I like the use of photography, it would be...

Activities! The making of...

Image
I shall keep the annotation to a minimum here as there is a lottttt to cover! It seemed very important to try all the activities I will looking at, to make sure they are applicable/appropriate for the target audience. I found them on websites/blogs focused around children's activities but I wanted to make sure and find ways of simplifying what I found and making them that bit more child friendly. I don't think they would need to measure the space and cut the tshirt down, it's unlikely they would be quite as big as this one - XXXL - but as an activity is a tad fiddly but easy enough I would say and requires so little materials and method that it seems perfect! If they have lighter coloured tshirts they could then go on to decorate them, if they aren't already patterned. The lighter the colour also probably the easier to see clearly what they are doing! I thought I would be able to use scissors for this but it was very difficult to do with scissors so I had to use a craf...
